How much we enjoy spending time in the mountains at Jasper National Park, we couldn’t say goodbye to Canada without visiting this gorgeous place that stole our hearts… camping in the mountains has always been one of our top priorities plans for summer vacations, we love everything about it, except mosquitoes… that surprisingly weren’t present on this camping, yay! From the incredible landscapes that Alberta has to offer, to the nights in a tent and food by the fire day and night.
We first stopped on our way there to admire Bow Lake. Even with a smokey sky due to some fires nearby, we still enjoyed this beautiful lake and took some shots of it to bring with us as our best souvenir. My daughter loves picking wildflowers and we preserved these colors wondering how wise nature is matching them with the surrounding landscapes; and the teal blue from those nice lakes…!
It takes us five hours to get there but so worth the time! the scenery is amazing along the trip. On the first day arriving we take advantage and eat some “churrasco” (grilled meat over the fire) in the evening. the meat took his time to marinate the night before and some fresh guacamole, fried black beans, “chirmol” (special Guatemalan tomato sauce with grilled and roasted tomatoes, salt, lime, cilantro, and mint). This is the traditional Guatemalan BBQ and makes the perfect camping meal before we drink a traditional hot chocolate or “agua de panela” (we loved this beverage shared by our Colombian friends) by the fire with some roasted marshmallows and Nefi’s funny stories.
Next day exploring the sky tram in Jasper! woohoo!!! Never been so high on a mountain before, and because of that lack of experience on us, we just barely walked like five minutes before kids started complaining about cold up there and the wind… hahaha, funny moments as amateur hikers. Even though I liked the view and all the experience.
We came years ago to Annette Lake years before, Nefi and my eldest son always enjoy a refreshing swim at these beautiful waters… just take a look at these colors… aren’t they amazing?! another favorite highlight of the trip. Next to this was Edith Lake that we just could take a little walk but admire and take nice shots, and my new second shooters also had a great time with the camera on hand 😉
So we finished our trip with a hike in The Valley of the Five Lakes and a visit to Maligne Lake, what a gem to our experience there in Canada! then going back to Calgary with the morning breathtaking views of the mountains down the road. Of course, elk appearances in those areas are very common and fun to see, we loved those surprising moments when a friendly neighbor is having some lunch at the side of the road.
After having yummy food, nice weather, fun times, friendly animal encounters, fantastic views of nature, and the best company by the fire at night… What else can I ask when I’m camping?! 🙂 I will be sharing more on the next post from another trip. For the moment, enjoy the beautiful Alberta through my lens…!
